Sole traders’ invoices need to have the name of the business on them, freelancers have been advised.
This will include their name and an address where any legal documents can be sent to, said Ben Evans, trainee solicitor at Lawdit Solicitors, a legal firm that advises freelancers.
Writing for Freelance UK, Mr Evans said that VAT-registered freelancers need to show their VAT registration number as well.
For those that trade under a business title that is not their own, they need to include their name and address on business cards and stationery, he added.
“From a practical point of view, I would advise including an address on your stationery/business cards. It may make prospective customers feel more at ease with who they are dealing with,” he commented on the website.
In other advice, Tony Harris, founder and managing director of Freelancer Money, wrote on Freelance UK that investing in pensions offers one of the remaining tax breaks for self-employed people.
