IT workers 'would miss World Cup final for emergency'

New research has revealed how IT professionals are showing a commitment to their jobs during the World Cup, which may interest IT contractors.

A poll carried out by Tufin Technologies quizzed 241 UK IT professionals and found that 87 per cent would miss the final of the World Cup if they had to respond to a major problem while it was being played.

The company contrasted this with a recent report by the Chartered Management Institute, which claimed that firms fear productivity will be damaged by employees taking time off to enjoy crucial matches.

Shaul Efraim, vice president of products, marketing and business development at Tufin Technologies, commented: “Although there have been many reports of people skiving to watch the matches … our study shows that many network defenders won’t be taking their eye of the ball.”

Earlier this month, Ennio Carboni, president of the network management division at Ipswitch, claimed that companies face bandwidth chokes and outages on their networks if too many people attempt to watch the World Cup while at work.
