IT contractors ‘must install layered fraud prevention’

IT contractors have been warned that a layered fraud prevention approach needs to be adopted to thwart modern malicious network attacks.

Two-factor authentication is no longer a reliable defence for clients against Trojan-based browser attacks, according to Gartner.

A similar system based on telephony my be equally susceptible to attack by fraudsters, IT contractor tax payers have been warned.

Vice-president and Gartner analyst Avivah Litan said that attacks have successfully been carried out on some of the globe’s largest institutions, such as banks.

She said: “While bank accounts are the main immediate target, these attack methods will migrate to other sectors and applications that contain sensitive valuable information and data.”

Ms Litan added that systems that preclude call forwarding to illegitimate users have been proven to mitigate fraud threats.

Last month, research by Gartner indicated that data centres will face an increasing number of critical issues in 2010, which could include malicious attacks on company networks.
