The business demand for PC’s and desktops saw the slightest of recoveries (only 5% last quarter) following a decline of over 20% in the entire market last year. This echoed the overall decline in IT spending last year as businesses remained cautious about the prospects of a second recession.
By contrast consumers increased spending on PC’s by 23% last year, which took the total growth of PC sales to 15%. This put Britain behind Germany and France where PC sales grew by 23% and 30% respectively.
The respected research agency Gartner noted of the figures that the possibility of a “second recession” should be prepared for and small companies in particular should identify what IT investments could be cancelled or at the very least postponed.
