Business Groups Applaud First 100 Days of Coalition

The CBI today sent a letter to its members, timed to coincide with the government reaching 100 days, in which it wrote that its “judgement was positive” and noted that the Emergency Budget in June had been “bold and audacious as it needed to be.” There was naturally some caution too, from Director General of the CBI Richard Lambert who pointed out the “stresses and strains to come” and tat the government would need to “work very hard to sustain business and consumer confidence.” Nevertheless he noted that CBI members were “taking a more positive view of Westminster” than a few months ago.

This was echoed by the Institute of Directors which congratulated the government on its deficit reduction plan and its bill on school competition. The Director General of the IOD, Miles Templeman said that to get the UK economy thriving, “tackling the crisis in out public finances and creating a better skilled workforce is absolutely central.” Despite some criticism from the IOD that the government had yet to start tackling over-regulation, their supportive tone, along with that of the CBI was a welcome nod of approval from the business community for George Osborne and the Coalition government.
